It gives me great pleasure to address you on the occasion of this special Juma’at Prayer to mark the 62nd Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy (NN). May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you all, Amen. Permit me to use this occasion to congratulate you all for witnessing this unique prayer which epitomizes the commencement of the 2018 Navy Week Celebration. The NN from its inception in 1956 to date owe its achievements to God Almighty who through His infinite mercies has continued to bless the Service with abundant human and material resources. I strongly believe that the prayers in the military mosques and other places of worship have continued to strengthen and usher in blessings for the NN. Let me therefore on behalf of the Officers, Ratings and Civilian Staff of the NN, say a very big thank you to our spiritual leaders and members of their congregations for standing solidly behind the NN in prayers.
Fellow brothers and sisters, occasions such as this call for sober reflection and prayers for our Nation. Please recall the Glorious Qur’an “O you men! Surely we have created you of a male and a female, and made you tribes and families that you may know each other, surely the most honourable of you with Allah is the most careful of his duty to Him. Surely God is knowing, Aware’’ (Qur’an 49 verse 13). As you are aware, our dear nation is facing several security challenges at the moment. We must stand united with the federal government to confront the current national security threats. I believe that with hard work, and determination, the present situation would be a thing of the past. Meanwhile, I want to sincerely appreciate all NN personnel for their sacrifice so far in their efforts at fighting insurgency and economic sabotage in order to maintain the peace and unity of our dear nation Nigeria.
May I seize this opportunity also to reiterate that as we strive together towards achieving the transformation agenda of this administration, it must be emphasized that security is the key to its overall attainment. The NN transformation plan is anchored on the Vision to emplace a navy that is adequately motivated and capable to effectively combating security challenges in Nigeria’s maritime domain. Dear brothers and sisters, I am also aware of the constraints to our operations as well as the myriads of welfare problems facing you in the NN. In this regard I am delighted to state that improving welfare has remained the cornerstone of my administration as demonstrated in the numerous welfare and administrative projects in various stages of completion across the various commands and establishments.
As we celebrate the Navy Week, I take the opportunity to remind you of your sacred duty to continue to remain committed to the defence of your country. On the part of the leadership, you can count on the fact that we would remain unwavering in the pursuit of necessary enablement to fire you up for the optimization of your output. It is a covenant that we are bound to, that we are determined to realise, and for which we converge here to seek the face of Allah. I therefore urge you to continue collectively and individually to conduct yourselves and discharge your duties with highest sense of integrity, team work and professionalism. I sincerely appreciate your immense support.
At this juncture, I urge us all to spare a moment to pray for all our colleagues in the Armed Forces, wherever they may be. We ask the Almighty Allah to protect, guide and grant them victory and successes in their various operations. We must also spare a moment for those of our colleagues who have paid the supreme sacrifice within the past year and ask the Almighty Allah to grant their souls a peaceful repose. I equally thank our religious leaders in our mosques and other places of worship for their unrelenting and fervent prayers for the NN. May God strengthen and bless you all. Finally I wish you all a joyous and successful 2018 Navy Week Celebration. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, bless the Armed Forces of Nigeria and bless the Nigerian Navy. Onward Together
